PEER BUDDIES
The Learning Experience for Elemenary
Schoolers
- Before we begin: Parents will receive information
packets at the start of the experience giving them some basic information about people with Autism Spectrum
Disorders and the kinds of behaviors their children can expect to see. They will also receive a packet about
the roles and responsibilities of peer buddies. We ask that parents share these packets with their children and
to email Kirsty with any questions . Kirsty will be happy to respond by email or set up a time to talk on the
phone. Parents interested in learning more are welcomed to our mini training session for clients parents , and
student volunteers. See our enrollment form for dates and
times.
- During: Peer Buddies receive coaching throughout each session about how to best encourage and support
their peers with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to participate in the Play Workshop activities. There will be
at least 1 adult for every 2 children with ASD. In situ coaching is the essence of our program so there is
always an adult right there to guide and support our Peer Buddies.
- Review: After the Play Workshop Series is
complete parents will receive a survey asking for feedback on their child's experience as a peer buddy. We
encourage you to fill this out with your child.
