PEER BUDDIES
The Learning Experience for Middle
Schoolers
- Before we begin: You will receive an information packets the start of the experience
giving you some basic information about people with Autism Spectrum Disorders and the kinds of
behaviors you can expect to see. We meet with the Peer Buddies the week before sessions begin to talk
about this packet, talk about your responsibilities in this role (including respect and confidentiality) and to
explain the process of being a Peer Buddy in our Play Workshops. See our enrollment form for dates and times.
- During: You
will then receive coaching throughout each session about how to best encourage and support your
peers with Autism Spectrum Disorder to participate in the Play Workshop activities. You are
encouraged to talk with staff at the end of the session or contact us between sessions with any questions,
concerns, or suggestions you may have.
- Review: After the
Play Workshop Series is complete you will be invited to a pizza night at the Community Center to talk
about the experience and give your feedback and suggestions about future Play Workshops.
